There's a lot
of activities to engage in during your stay in this
beautiful and unspoilt area of the world. On this page we suggest some things to
do in addition to the other tourist attractions you'll find throughout Western
Uganda, most of which you can explore when you check out our 'Uganda Towns' pages below and most are free or very reasonably
priced. If staying at a local homestay probably the first thing you will want to
do is go for a scenic walk along the mountain paths that will surround your
accommodation. Inevitably you'll be joined by
local kids eager to spend time with a "muzungo" who may introduce you to local activities such as
milking local Ankole cattle to more ambitious activities such as horse-riding
and outdoor swimming.
This list is not
comprehensive but gives a flavour of what's on offer locally.
When in Western Uganda no doubt you'll also be invited to
visit people in their homes or even to celebrations such as baptisms, weddings,
birthdays and anniversaries. These are wonderful occasions, although the
speeches tend to be a bit long (!) and end with hours of dancing to local
Ugandan music with alcohol flowing feely. If you get the chance spend such a day
soaking up local culture ~ but don't plan to do anything afterwards as all
events are run on local African time; everything starts and ends late!
