There
are very few Ugandan towns that are "oldy worldly" not least because Uganda is
a very new country only born in 1962. As such, and without any form of town
planning, most small towns have grown up around roads with sprawling small cement
buildings offering their wares often repeated until the town or villages returns
to open countryside. The country does, however, offer some major towns which are of a different
quality. Equally busy and bustling with loud activity and boda boda motorcycle
drivers constantly trying to compete for your business, these larger towns such
as Kabale and Mbarara have long histories with an equally wide range of goods
and services for sale from quality(ish) restaurants to hotels and major
shopping outlets where nearly everything you could want can be purchased.
This guide currently features the Western Ugandan towns of Ntungamo and
Fort Portal
as well as Kabale and Mbarara and will be
supplemented with guides to other towns shortly as they become
available.
