Main Western Ugandan Towns
There are very few Ugandan towns that are "oldy worldly" not least because Uganda is a very new country only born in 1962. As such, and without any form of town planning, most small towns have grown up around roads with sprawling small cement buildings offering their wares often repeated until the town or villages returns to open countryside. Somewhat confusingly, many shop facades are sponsored so you'd think every shop is a paint shop!
The country does, however, offer some major towns which are of a different quality. Equally busy and bustling with loud activity and boda boda motorcycle drivers constantly trying to compete for your business, these larger towns such as Kabale and Mbarara have long histories with an equally wide range of goods and services for sale from quality(ish) restaurants to hotels and major shopping outlets where nearly everything you could want can be purchased. There you can also take in horseriding, golf or even swimming. There are also a few museums well worth a visit detailed in this Western Uganda town guide. We currently feature the Western Ugandan towns of Ntungamo and Fort Portal as well as Kabale and Mbarara, Kasese and and Entebbe. Yep, Entebbe isn't in Western Uganda, but it's your likely place of entry into the country so we've included it here. |
